One Tree Island

Located on The Great Barrier Reef, this research station was constructed in two stages. The first stage consisted of laboratories and accomodation, the second a specialised `Wet Lab` for detailed reef study. Site remoteness and scarcity if building materials meant these buildings were designed and built without concrete. Timber and coral were used as the main elements of the buildings, all of which have successfully passed the cyclone test.
