The Marika-Alderton House
The Marika-Alderton House was designed for an indigenous artist and is located in the Yirrkala Community, Eastern Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia.
The structure consisting of steel frames and other lightweight materials was architecturally designed by Glenn Murcutt to adapt to the tropical climate of the Northern Territory.
Unlike most projects, the Marika-Alderton House consists of prefabricated units, prepared on the central coast of NSW and transported to the site location for assembly.
James Taylor & Associates provided the structural design and documentation for the project and worked closely with Glenn Murcutt to ensure the architectural concepts were maintained whilst providing a cost effective structure capable of withstanding intense cyclonic conditions.
